Why is it that I see so many people on ATVs during Christmas? I think I saw at least one four-wheeler sighting per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Christmas holiday.
Anybody else ever experienced this?
(Okay..everybody from Denton or Houston or some other big city - this is your cue to make some psuedo-comical comment about A. rednecks B. east texas or C. small-town life in general. This can also be followed with the ever popular People In Lufkin Don't Know How To Drive comment which is always welcome here in Todd Land.)

Last week, Jonah and I were playing football in the yard and he began giving me direction as to what was about to happen and who we "were going to be" in this particular game.

Then he said...

"Okay, I'll be the Lufkin Panthers and you be the white guys."

RECORD UPDATE

If all goes as planned, the next couple of days should find me tracking a "rough demo" to send to Ross. This will be all the potential songs for the record (and even some unfinished ideas) that I'll have Ross listen through and make notes.

Then, sometime in January, Ross and I will sit down and talk about the songs, what they need, etc. We'll decided what we want, then I'll come home and do the clicks myself. (Well, using Romack's gear. And Romack will engineer them, too. And email them to Ross.)

Once that's done, tracking will tenatively begin in February, which seems awfully close. I had thought about creating an additional blog for the whole CD adventure, but since this blog is about the way I'm spending my days, you'll just get occassional ramblings from time-to-time. (I predict many of them will be along the lines of "I suck at vocals" or "Why can't I play with a click-track?" or "My songs are crap." Just be ready.)

If you're interested in praying for me, I appreciate it. Here are a couple of specific things I'm looking out for:
1. BALANCE - My hope is to create a record that is designed for congregational worship. That being said, I think it's very hard for worship records to remain "congregational" without becoming boring. Pray for a double shot of creativity and consideration.

2. MONEY - As it stands, we're still short the big chunk of cash for the record, which may mean slowing things down toward the end, but I confident that this is the time to do this record. Please understand that I say the following with as much humility as I can muster - I do think this record will change a lot of things for me and my family. I'm not sure what, but over the past few months, I've felt such a strong confirmation from the Lord about this particular ministry path. I'm not asking you to pray for money, guys; I'm asking you to pray that I'll be patient and content if the rest of the money doesn't show up. My zeal about this new phase of my ministry can easily get the better of me.

3. EFFICIENCY - Pray that tracking, mixing, mastering, art, duplication, etc. will happen efficiently and as stress-free as possible.

4. THE TWB - This is an honest request, although it might seem a bit silly. Pray for the guys that I normally travel with. They will not be tracking on this record and I know it's going to be a tough thing for each of them. I appreciate their support and patience, but I also know it's going to be hard knowing that I'm off recording while they're at home practicing the very same songs for the next gig. I love these guys immensely, and I believe that God has great things planned for each of them. Hopefully, I'll get to continue to share the road with them as God blesses their music, both individually as well as the work they give on my behalf.

My hope is that the rough demo will be ready to mail out on Saturday. (If you're reading this, Ross...it's coming, I promise!)

Later, gang...thanks for reading.

Here's a pic I did for an upcoming January series. (Sorry Passion Hymns.)

For the past few years around Christmas, I always get "encouraged" about my use of Christmas music in congregational worship. Namely..."Uh, you're gonna' do some carols, right?"

Last year, in a four week period, we did 10 Christmas songs. It was mix of carols, Andrew Peterson stuff and a couple of things I had written. Well, this year, I got the talk again..."Think we might do more carols?"

So, I've stayed away from performance pieces and tried to play carols. (Which, as Forrest so aptly put it, "ain't written for guitar!")

Here's my question...with regard to church, how early do you want to sing carols in church? The Sunday before Christmas? Two weeks worth? A month? More?

Love to know what you think, gang.

Beck - Claps Hands 2005 Sarah Kutner Show

I think this is always what Jason wanted our little IOSM table percussion jams to turn into...

Alas, we could never get there.

I'm currently sitting in the video editing room of our church...a place I've grown to hate over the past few weeks.

I'm trying to finish up our "Christmas Eve Special" for broadcast on KTRE on Christmas Eve. It has been a tedious job and I am ready to be done. Once said video is completed there very well may be happy dance of some sort.

I hope everyone has learned their lesson with regard to commenting on my blog. I don't think you want more Winterband, do you? (The funniest part of that particular punishment is that I have yet to watch one of those videos in its entirety...and yet, many of you have.)

Because I'm feeling generous, I will not request comments on this particular post, although you are welcome to do so.

Note: I'm looking for a slamming female to sing BGV's for during STORM weekend..if you know a girl who can sing worship and sing it well...tell her to contact me.

My Day

6:20
Wake up and hang out w/ kids. Look at Kristen and say, "Can I lay back down for a few minutes?" My wonderful wife then gave me thirty more minutes of sleep.

7:00-8:00
Get up, bathe, iron clothes, watch kids, kiss family, head to church.

8:00-9:00
Get to church...Saldana was already there setting up! Our piano player was out, so Jinx had to take the riff on "Angels We Have Heard On High." It was quite tasty. Worked on the set for close to an hour, then headed back home to get Jonah for Sunday School.

9:00-12:00
Spent an hour setting up cameras, printing tech sheets, talking over tech cues. Met w/ team at 10:25, prayed, then hit the stage with:
Stir Up A Hunger
Angels We Have Heard On High
Rejoice (chorus only)
Promised One
The band did great, although our crowd was a little rough, but I had fun! Our second istallment of The Gift went really well, too.

12:00-2:00
Had lunch at my parent's house. Great time eating, playing with the kids and spending a couple of hours not worrying about anything!

2:00-4:00
Played gamecube w/ Jonah, hung out w/ my wife, got dressed for OSM.

4:00-8:00
OSM.

8:00-10:00
Sat on the couch thinking...why am I so tired on Sunday nights? Anybody relate?

It was a great day, though...would have liked more time with the family, but I'll work on that tomorrow!

Another One

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Monday, December 04, 2006

A now a line from one of my favorite authors in the world, Mr. David Sedaris. The following is taken from his Holidays on Ice (c) 1997 Little, Brown and Company:

"I came home this afternoon and checked the machine for a message from UPS, but the only message I got was from the company that holds my student loan, Sallie Mae. Sallie Mae sounds sounds like a naive and barefoot hillbilly girl but in fact they are a ruthless and aggressive conglomeration of bullies located in a tall brick building somewhere in Kansas. I picture it to be the tallest building in the state and I have decided they hire their employees straight out of prison. It scares me."

Started a new series yesterday called "The Gift." We ran this video at the end of the sermon. Very artsy/enigmatic - we'll run one each week. Take a look..

The other day I was driving back to work and thinking about how busy I was. It was then I realized that about 75% of the stuff I'm doing is my own fault. I'm the guy in the meetings who goes...

"Hey, what about if we tried this?"

And everybody says, "Sure, Todd. Can you do that for us?"

"Um, uh...yes?"
