It's So Hard To Say Goodbye..

This will be fun...

I'm guessing that there are a few of you (at least) who have thought about something like this.

What do want your funeral to look like?
What do you want them to sing?
What do you want them to say?
Where should it be held?
What sort of overall "theme" would you want?

i want my funeral to be a party. not the cheesy celebration of life but a real party. tap the keg...fire up the bbq and let er rip. everyone should also wear those tuxedo shirts. why? "I like to think of my Jesus wearing a tuxedo t-shirt. It shows that he’s formal, ya know, but it also says, ‘Hey, I like to party."

seriously.

I couldn't think of a better celebration of the end of my life that the funeral service in our Book of Common Prayer. And I want them to celebrate Holy Communion.

Songs? "Deck Thyself, My Soul, With Gladness," "Jesus Shall Reign where'er the Sun," and Kemper's setting of the Gloria in Excelsis.

There are two songs that immediately come to mind, that I want at my funeral:
"Untitled Hymn" (Come to Jesus) by Chris Rice

and
"My Redeemer Lives" by Nicole C Mullen

Interesting question. I am looking forward to other's comments.

i have thought a lot about this. she who must be obeyed would say i have thought too much about it. i want my funeral to be in my local church and i want the message by either my father (if he is still alive or able) or by my pastor. i want the message to include a clear presentation of the gospel. i want those in attendance to leave knowing where i am and how they can be there, too. i want there to be a big party after. i agree with michael (except for the keg. i don't drink). overall, a celebration.

First, there has to be a worship band. A rocking worship band. No dirges at my funeral.

Second, Todd Wright has to sing and lead.

Third, Todd has to sing "Lay Me Down" by Andrew Peterson. Talk to Anita and pick the rest of the tunes. The recessional should be the Aggie War Hymn.

Fourth, I want a celebration with laughs and good times. I'm with MJ, nothing cheesy. There should be lots of humor. Runnels should be involved somewhere in the service. And my boss, Dave.

Fifth, no mention of what kind of "employee" I was. Who cares. It just paid the bills.

Sixth, my son Cole should read "The Last Corps Trip".

Seventh, my daughter Corinne should read my final letter. It'll be my last chance to dance with her.

Eighth, after they get me in the ground, or whatever they do with me, time for a big meal. Everyone's invited and no mourning allowed. Just good fellowship and hanging out. There should be homemade ice cream.

It opens with "Changes in Latitudes, changes in attitudes" by Jimmy Buffett. Praise band should be there. Do some rockin' stuff but I'd also like "In You" by Mercy Me done. Communion for all. I'm with Chris on the recessional..Aggie War Hymn.

Party... Margaritas and Shiners with some good Mexican Food and Bar B Que. Play the music loud and have a good time.

My remains are to be incinerated. I am compiling a list of places where I want my ashes spread. 2 church locations in Lufkin I know of (a tiny pinch in the FUMC gym a little in the FCC sanctuary).. Hilltop camp north of Nac, Schumacher dorm parking lot at A&M, Galveston Island, Mt. Bonnell in Austin, Winter Park Co, San Diego Ca, Cocoa Beach Fl. Throw a little off the Empire State Building.. there will be a few more places...
