I've got something...how about this. Community in the biblical sense is a gift from God. I think community is something that is to be cherished. I don't take it for granted. I see it as something that should be protected and nurtured. With that said, some of my closest friends live out of state (read Texas). How are we to maintain community over such a long distance. With the technology available to us, I think it's appropriate to take adavantage of it. What better technology for community than blogs? Self centered? I don't think so. I prefer "platform for sharing life together" over "self-centered personal pep rally."
Obviously, "self-centered" is being used negatively. But, why is it that MySpace, FaceBook, personal diaries and journals, etc...aren't also deemed as "self-centered"? Isn't it, generally, the same idea - a venue to share the happenings in ones' life?
The term blog is, after all, short for "web log", which I see as an interactive journal.
