Okay, we're closing in on mix stage for the record. This means that I'm now starting to fill out paperwork, get pictures together, make sure I have enough money to actually duplicated CDs, write my thank-yous, all that stuff.
This is where you come in.
I'm having so much trouble figuring out track placement. Here's what my list looks like right now:
TODD WRIGHT - ALL THE FREED
1. All The Freed

That was a lot harder than I thought. Though, I'm not sure that it really matters to me what order songs are in on a cd. In a service, it's one of the most important things.
Anyway...I listed the songs I know in the order I'd like them. Hope it helps.
Hurry up! I want a copy (and yes, I'll pay for it and not burn in from Blake).
All the Freed has to be #3. Think about it... All songs in the third position are key to an album...
Don't beleive me? Go look for yourself!
The rest is really up to you man. We all don't know the feel of the songs like you do. I've heard some of them but most of them sound different than version 1.0. Personally, I like it when songs are sort of grouped up by tempo, excitment, and message. Not all together of course but nothing worse than a slow ballad followed up by a 4-on-floor rocker!
Dunno about the order, but that needs to be the cover, with "Not Actual Cover" included.
yeah, i agree with robert. this is too hard for anyone but you to try and do. i have a better sense of where the songs are going than any of the other folks around here (since i've been recording this thing), and i still wouldn't feel comfortable trying to throw together a playlist. that's a part of who you are as a worship leader and artist. don't forfeit that to any of us bozos.
I think "All the Freed" is a great opener. I've heard the theory that robert is talking about, but i also know that people are fickle and attention-disabled. It's good to grab them with the first tune. And for those of you who don't know, the production/sound of "all the freed" is pretty great and ear-catching, thanks mainly to Johnny and Brady.
if track #3 is supposed to be the standout, then i'd go with "I am glad" for that one, because it's just such a fantastic, solid song.
I think I will open with "All the Freed." But I am quite interested in what you had to say, Robert, namely that #3 is so important and the grouping of tunes.
The tendency for artists is to actually think...I better spreak out my fast songs, which tends to make the list a bit random. But I will take your advice to heart.
Okay, I've been looking at this and reading the suggestions and reasons for those suggestions and they all make good sense to me. But.....My take is this. The first line of My Lips Will Sing, "I'm not here to sing for the sake of singing" is to me a great way to open and set up this worship album. Maybe I am particularly partial to this song, but I just like that as an opening into the next 12 amazing tunes on this cd. I'm working on the rest of my list. I'll get back to you.
Don't program this like an entertainment album. Program it like a worship service.
Acclamation/Call to Worship
Proclamation
Response
Petition
Confession
Communion
Benediction
Commission
I know it's got to be difficult throwing your work and passion out there to be interpreted by folks like me. So here's a few ideas:
Part of Your Story...track 2
Order the tracks from most "most sounds like U2" to "least sounds like U2"
Take the worship planning approach
In the end I would order the album in the way that most resonates with you. You have great instincts...don't over think it!
David...Ross wouldn't let me do any U2.
hahaha - i just remembered how "lively" the discussion was over the U2 part in that one song....
Oh, and this is how i hear it
