On Communion and Baptism

"If it's alright to use grape juice in Communion, why not baptize with confetti?"

I think he makes a great point. Baptist are totally crazy-devoted to the "form" of baptism. (Has to be immersion, cause it was immersion in the Bible!)

But they're not so committed to the form when we start talking about wine.

yeah, i totally agree with John on this one, but you better get ready for some ticked-off, or at least way confused, responses.

There's a school of thought that says if you’re in a land without water, then you should use something else like sand for baptism. While I understand the thinking, water is powerful as a symbol of baptism - "not the removal of dirt from the body, but a clear conscience toward God." (1 Peter 3:21) Water is clear, mysterious, fluid, without shape or form - in some ways kind of like God in whom we are buried with (Romans 6:4, 1 Corinthians 15:4)

As for the alcohol, give me something 200 proof, something that stings and reminds that Christ has taken away the sting of death.

"When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death is your victory? Where, O death is your sting?" (1 Corinthians 15:54-55)

Chad, we don't like it when people quote scripture around here. We'd prefer you to support your theories with the lyrics of country superstar Tracy Byrd.

How about Bill Mallonee?

made a visit to your garden
to come there and ask for pardon
my offense was very great
my defense was second rate

tears were words and then again
falling down like English rain
once a king and now a fool
lead me to baptismal pools

and you put every fear to flight
and you bathed me in the pale moonlight
there were angels in the trees
looking on looking on looking on looking on
